I think Demostats findings are credible. This is the current psychological situation in northern Kosovo. However, the citizens of northern Kosovo should not fear the Kosovo police, and least of all the Government of Albin Kurti. They have reason to be dissatisfied with Albin Kurtis government, but not to fear it, PhD Professor Nedzmedin Spahiu told Demostat, commenting on the findings of Demostats focus groups, according to which the Serb community in Kosovo has no confidence in either Pristina or Serbian List (https://demostat.rs/sr/vesti/ekskluziva/srbi-na-kim-se-plase-represije-pristine-ali-i-srpske-liste/1900).

Spahiu states: “Albin Kurti is not a criminal. Kurti did not kill anyone, nor did he order a murder. And when the war began, he didnt get his hands on a weapon, not because he was afraid of getting killed, but because he couldnt shoot anyone. Kurti is not a corrupt politician, but he is simply incapable of governing. This is the reason why Serbs are dissatisfied with his government, and soon there will be discontent among Albanians in Kosovo. But he is not inclined to discriminate against Serbs, or anyone else”.

According to our interlocutor, “Serbs in Kosovo have nothing to fear, even if there were no KFOR”.

“Over the past two decades, there have been more incidents within ethnic communities than between different ethnic communities. No politician was killed by members of another ethnic community and there was plenty within the community. Dimitrije Janicijevic, Oliver Ivanovic were killed, Petar Miletovic was wounded, and the assassins were not Albanians but Serbs. The only real fear is if the political leadership in Belgrade thinks about sending an army to Kosovo, which would be devastating for Kosovo, and ultimately for Belgrade. I hope that it will prevail and that it will not happen, Spahiu concludes.

Let us remind you, along with the very expressed fears in the respondents, Demostat also noticed distrust. The high degree of distrust refers primarily to the institutions of Pristina, mostly to the government led by Albin Kurti. There is also a high level of distrust in the Kosovo police service (KPS). At the same time, we detected that the trend of decreasing the level of trust in the institutions of Serbia ( in the official Belgrade), after the Serbs from the northern part of Kosovo and Metohija left local institutions, and this “erosion of trust” was especially intensified after the tragic events in Banjska.
